We have a gory tradition in our town. People believe that for your sins to be forgiven you have to do penance that means physically torturing yourself. I don't know any other place in the entire country that could match the gore we have during Good Friday.
For decades this has been a tourist attraction. Others might find it offensive so I did not post all the pictures I took, just check out my multiply site that includes the Blood Bath of Good Friday last year http://marcsplanet.multiply.com
What an amazing display of Faith.
You have four options for your penance. This beats the movie "Passion of the Christ"
1. Put cuts in your back, not less than 9, while bleeding hit it hard with bamboo sticks. Walk, crawl, or roll around town at the heat of the day.
2. Strategically place arrows in your body where a slight movement in your upper body would either give you a deep wound or kill you.
3. Carry a cross, wear a full body suit, tie a rope around your waist and have a group of people beat the crap out of you around town.
4. Be crucified in a cross.
The end does not justify the means, but their ways remind us how Christ suffered and died for us.

Holy Week 09 Part 2: Holy Thursday
Maundy Thursday in our place is not what you'd expect from a Catholic community. Its a warzone out there, more like a mardigra. A lot of people shouting and beating the crap of their Kristo (masochistic people who act like Christ... not the savior part, but the part where He gets beaten up). Every street corner has a Kubol (reenactment of the 12 stations of the cross), this is where the guys who act as Christ stop getting beaten up as they go from one station of the Cross to another. So basically Kubols are put up then a group of men captures their Kristo and beat the bloody hell out of him across the town. Yipee...
The Kubol is a competition so actors don't move for hours as expectators go from one kubol to another.

Review of LaMB

I will not be biased because a Filipino wrote the story line for LaMB
I will not be biased because a Filipino directed the animation of LaMB
I will not be biased because the animation was done in the Philippines
I will not be biased because a Filipino won the Animax LaMB Blogging Contest
(I keep repeating that chant over and over as I write this review a day after LaMB was shown in Animax)
I promised to complete my review of LaMB once it was completely shown in Animax so here it goes, my April Fools Gift.
I did not want to expect too much from LaMB because it might end up like those over hyped movies I go to watch and then leave the theater disappointed.
I was indeed disappointed.
LaMB is a landmark animation, it created quite a stir in the past months and it lived up to the expectations.
LaMB movie takes pride in four things: THE ART, THE ACTING, THE MUSIC, and THE LITERATURE
THE ART
LaMB features the best flash animation seen on telivision. The opening scence would make you wonder if that was ever possible in flash. The background scenes are detailed bringing you to a futuristic world with special effects like the ones you would see at modern video games. Facial reactions, subtle clues that bring about another level of entertainment above the typical narration method of story plot delivery. Although the color and lines are well done viewers would notice the movements of the characters to be hampered in some way. Some actions by the characters seemed to be awkward to a point that it would make you smile, but the movie tries to fix this by making the characters have less movements. The action scenes are well choreographed like a dance. LaMB pushed flash animation to its limits setting a new standard on animation.
(I anxiously waited to see how Simple Plan was "cartoonized")
THE ACTING
The voice actors proved that they were not only featured in LaMB because of their fame but their talent. I noticed that Dr. Jack was always calm no matter what the situation.
THE MUSIC
LaMB boast two great bands to as an official soundtrack. The songs of Simple Plan and Click Five were repeated throu out the movie, I failed to count how many but I can assure you not just once, it makes you wonder if those are the only songs planned for the movie. It wasn't, there were a lot os songs that will put you in a trance and make you belive that you are in the future. I personally liked the song during the chase. Can someone please tell me what the song is when Dr. Jack and Eve were being chased by wolves?
The Literature
It is a great story of love, betrayal, bionic suites, and saving the environment. All stiched together to make a multi-layered plot. I has a complex plot and you feel that there are more stories within the story, which is where I was disappointed. A well thought complex story line was forced in a 45 minute film. There were a lot of questions that were running in my head as I was watching LaMB. There are parts of the movie that require a longer explanation. A modern story has no ending and leaves the audience hanging, LaMB made me think the whole movie.
Why did that robot mal-functioned when it saw the image of Jack's wife? There must be something deeper into it.
Where did the wolves come from?
Why did the last LaMB created have long black hair?
Where all the LaMBs set free even the really bad guys?
I understand the time constraints of the film and I wish they would make it into a series.
Thanks Animax. The wait was well worth it.

Kamote Empire VS an Insect Fastfood and A not-Chinese Restaurant in a Euphemistic Court

Polite Fiction
A drooling intellectually challenged stink bug once said "I had tears when they showed me a video of a child diagnosed with C, the child wanted to have a burger from the insect fast food before he goes up the clouds." (That drooling intellectually challenged stink bug is cosmetically challenged and is also mentally challenged)
10 out of 10 nutritionists would say that eating at fast food is suicidal.
Why wont you shed tears for the millions of people that are having a hard time, ill, or have lost their lives by eating fast food?
Why wont you cry a river for those who have lost a love one from obesity, from heart failure, from kidney failure, brain damage, and hypertension. (or a combination of all)
10 out of 10 environmentalist would say that they are not saving our only home.
Why wont you realize that even a hundred Earth Hours would not be enough to clean up the sanitary problems caused by the non-biodegradable trash dumped everyday from styro foams and plastic which are only used a few minutes?
You have your own free will to eat or not from our fast food.
On the contrary all your food have addictive substance that make people come back for more. No will power can fight the chemicals that are produced in the brain.
Even the colors they use are meant to deceive people into making them think that they are hungry.
You have conditioned children to believe that they will have happy moments when they come to your place. It will all soon be too late, a hard hitting realization that happiness is not jolly.
Do you love yourself?
Do you love your family and friends?
Do you love our only home?
We are still lucky, pigs and cows are not endangered species.
Anecdotes:
From the Insect Fast Food (Mickey Mouse will always be a rodent, and an insect will always be an insect)
I ordered a burger because I only want a burger, and a burger is what I want. When I got the order it had fries and softdrinks with it. I asked the cashier/clerk/crew why I had to pay for something I did not order. She said that I could save more if I buy the burger with the fries and softdrinks.
From the not-Chinese Restaurant (King is not a Chinese word, and they don't have a King in China, not that I know off)
The fried rice cost 39, the cashier/clerk/crew asked for an exact amount. I gave 40. She gave me a number, number 107. All the other customers with numbers up to 159 got their orders already. It had been an hour, I think they forgot about me. I went to the crew and followed up on my order. She said she was sorry she gave me the wrong number, my order was there the whole time in a table with my real number, number 115. They had my number with my order, how convenient.
From the King of Chicken
"Sir we don't have anymore chickens, would you like a burger instead?"
